Sainz Jr. signs with Toro Rosso, joins Verstappen

Carlos Sainz Jr. has signed with Formula One team Toro Rosso for the 2015 season. He joins a very young teammate in the name of Max Verstappen.

Carlos Sainz Jr, son of Carlos Sainz twice rally champion, signed his contract with Toro Rosso last week. His seat was coveted by many and there were plenty of rumours about who would take it. Jean-Eric Vergne, Pierre Gasly – second in the Formula Renault 3,5 series – and Alex Lynn who took home the title of GP3 Series champion were among the drivers rumoured to sign with Toro Rosso. In the end, Sainz Jr edged out everyone. After winning the Formula Renault 3.5 Series championship, which was his 2014 objective, he is now about to make one of his dream come true : to compete in the Formula One championship.

His victory in the Formula Renault 3.5 series championship was an imperial one, he beat the record of most victories in the season with 10, which is more than it was ever done in the series since its launch 10 years ago. His selection in Formula One is therefore aptly justified.

Sainz was asked which number he will choose for 2015. The young driver from the Red Bull Junior Team said his favorite numbers were 19 and 5 but both are already taken by Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel respectively. The Spanish will therefore race under the number 55.

The news should be confirmed later this week but FORMULARAPIDA.NET has the exclusivity on this and is therefore the first to reveal the secret.
