Carlos Sainz doesn’t think that Williams can do any better than the podium it scored in F1 Azerbaijan GP, barring any special situation.
After a surprise but deserving podium for Williams in F1 Azerbaijan GP, Sainz doesn’t think that the Grove-based team can do any better in the current season. There is always the possibility of winning, but there has to be a special situation for that to happen.
Williams crossed the 100 points mark after the podium which was long time coming due to the performance they have shown in F1 2025. They sit fifth in the standings, being chased by multiple teams but with an advantage of 29 points over next best, Visa Cash App RB.
Sainz finally got a clean run and managed to put the car on the podium after all the bad luck, with Alexander Albon missing out. The Spaniard don’t see a repeat unless there is a special situation, but reckons Las Vegas could be the best chance if they want to repeat on pure pace.
“Not much more than this, to be honest [that we can achive],” said Sainz. “I think the podium is — unless something crazy happens — maybe our best chance. Probably Vegas will be our next best track to try and maybe put together a top five or a top six, which is what we sometimes can achieve when everything goes right. Apologies, it’s a tough ask.
“I’ll fight for it if it comes, like you’ve seen today. But the rest, for example in Qatar, I don’t think we will score points. That’s how much our performance swings. But then we will have the Austins, the Mexicos.
“We will be a pure midfield car where we can maybe get in the points and keep our championship going. So excited to see what happens in those races,” summed up Sainz, who jumped up to 12th in drivers’ standings with 31 points – only eight behind Isack Hadjar in ninth.
