The news broke just before the the third free-practice session of the US Grand Prix: Toro Rosso retains Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat for the 2017 season.

If Carlos Sainz’ future was almost assured after the refusal from Red Bull to give him to Renault, the rumours were really strong for Daniil Kvyat. Indeed, his future seemed really dark after Red Bull placed him back to Toro Rosso before the Spanish Grand Prix, switching him with Max Verstappen.

Since then, the Russian driver only scored four points with his first Formula One team. Nevertheless, Red Bull decided to retain him for a fourth season in Formula One.

“I’m very happy to stay with a team that feels like home to me. I’m really looking forward to continuing the hard work together in 2017 and I’m really aiming high. I will always be fully dedicated, giving my 200%, and I will be pushing as hard as I usually do, that’s for sure. I’m delighted!”

The question remaining is : what will happen with Pierre Gasly? Fighting for the title in GP2 Series, he would not be able to stay for another season if he eventually got the title. Renault could switch his interest from Kvyat to the Frenchman to be alongside Nico Hülkenberg.
