George Russell warns about the unknown challenge of rain at Spa

Formula 1 driver George Russell has alerted that drivers will face a completely unpredictable challenge in rainy conditions during the upcoming race at Spa-Francorchamps. This will be the first time this season that the 2026 vehicles compete in a wet Grand Prix.

Russell made these statements after an exciting British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where he achieved a second place despite suffering a slow puncture. Now, the focus turns to the Belgian circuit, known for its variable conditions, including the likelihood of rain during the weekend.

“You can’t plan for it, because you don’t know what you’re going to encounter,” Russell stated on the radio show _Nu Silver Arrows_. Furthermore, he commented that there are discussions about the possible difference in tire performance compared to previous years, which could force drivers to be more cautious during the first laps in the rain.

The British driver warned that during the first laps more conservative decisions might be made, such as avoiding full speed through Eau Rouge, one of the circuit’s iconic sections. Russell added that it is impossible to fully prepare for this type of situation, as each lap in the rain is different and drivers need to be flexible and adapt to the circumstances.

Russell currently sits in second place in the drivers’ championship, with a 25-point deficit to leader Kimi Antonelli, as he prepares for the Belgian Grand Prix, which will take place from July 17 to 19.
