Russell honoured to be new GPDA director, Grosjean takes-up advisor role

George Russell has been named as a the new GPDA director to replace Romain Grosjean, who will remain on the board as an advisor.

Mercedes junior and Williams F1 driver, Russell, has been named as the new Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) director, where he will replace Grosjean in the role. The Frenchman will remain on board as an advisor in an honorary capacity.

Grosjean had revealed about the change on his Twitch stream earlier this month, which has now been confirmed by GPDA The British F1 racer will be ably supported by fellow director, Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel and chairman, Alexander Wurz.

With Vettel and Wurz continuing in their roles, there is another appointment alongside Russell, where the GPDA has promoted Anastasia Fowle to a director role, from his legal advisor work till now. She is the first non-driver appointment made by the association.

“After several years working alongside Alex, Sebastian and Romain, I am proud they and their fellow drivers have nominated me for the first non-F1 driver Board position,” said Fowle. “I am passionate about the sport and the industry and am honoured to be able to support the GPDA in its endeavours.”

At the same time, Russell – who only starts his third year in F1, added: “It is an honour and privilege to be nominated director of the GPDA, I appreciate the support of my fellow drivers in entrusting this role to me and recognise the responsibility it entails.

“In its six decades of existence, the GPDA has been an integral part of supporting and shaping F1 safety, for the sport and our fans. I am looking forward to tackling the new challenges and opportunities alongside Anastasia, Sebastian and Alex.”
