Russell and Lorandi claim poles after dramatic qualifying

After many incidents on track, George Russell claims pole position for the second race of the week-end while Alessio Lorandi claims pole position for the third race, the Grand Prix of Pau.


The groups used in Q1 remain the same but the group B will go out on track before group A.

Right in the beginning of the session, Guan Yu Zhou crashed in T1 and was not able to go back again. As soon as his car was taken out, Lance Stroll set the pace before Arjun Maini crashed in T9. Lots of drivers got surprised by the rain falling again mid session. An eventfull end of qualifying session for Van Amersfoort Racing as Anthoine Hubert went wide in T1 in the last moments while Callum Ilott set the best time in 1:21.708 before doing the same mistake than his teammate and Pedro Piquet crashed at Foch which provoked a red flag and the end of the session. Callum Ilott is currently under investigation by the stewards.

Group A started with rays of sunshine warming and drying the track, allowing Maximilian Günther to continuously set purple sectors after purple sectors before causing a red flag, not being agle to go again. Therefore, Sergio Sette Camara and Alessio Lorandi had a breathetaking fight for pole but it’s George Russell who, unexpectedly, took pole position at the chequered flag. Alessio Lorandi scores his first pole position in Formula 3 for race 3 and will be followed by Stroll and Camara.
