After four podiums in his back this season, the current runner-up of the series, Alexander Rossi has taken the victory for first time this season, and the first win of the season for Racing Engineering who completes a one-two with Jordan King on second. Evans complete the podium after overtake Vandoorne who finishes 4th at Spa-Francorchamps.
Yesterday’s crazy race which Daniël de Jong crashed, the GP2 Series reported that the driver is ok after been taken at Liege Hospital where it was found a broken vertebrae which needed immediate attention. Then he went in a four hour surgery that went well and his situation is stable. The man who caused the accident, Pierre Gasly was penalized with 10 seconds after the race. The same for Stanaway, Gelael and Stockinger who gets his first point in the series. This “helps” to Gustav Malja (Trident) who in his first ever race get scored a point.
And today, Jordan King started from pole position spot. In the start He kept first place from the attacks of his teammate Alexander Rossi who overtook him finally at Les Combes, Berthon was third followed by Leal and Vandoorne who started fifth. Immediately, Vandoorne started to set fast laps to overtake Leal and attack Berthon.
Leal then in the early laps was on pressure by the Russian Time cars of Evans and Markelov. Both drivers overtook the Colombian driver.
With 7 laps to go, after several laps behind Berthon, Stoffel Vandoorne overtook the Frenchman at Les Combes to get in the podium positions, just behind the two Racing Engineering cars which he catch very quickly, because King was driving defensive under team orders.
Meanwhile, with 4 laps to go, Arthur Pic went off before Paul Frère corner and caused the virtual safety car. When this came out after one lap, Sirotkin overtook Markelov for 6th place at Eau Rouge but then the Russian advanced his compatriot at the Kemmel straight. Then the Russian Time driver overtook at the same place Berthon for fifth position. Sirotkin did the same on last lap.
Vandoorne made a mistake and run wide after locking up, that makes him lost 2 seconds with Jordan King, and put Evans behind his car. That lock up cost a position for the local driver who have been overtaken by Evans at last lap.
Rossi crossed the line on first place for first time this season in a one-two for Racing Engineering. Evans third on the podium then is Vandoorne, Markelov, Sirotkin, Berthon and Lynn finished on points.
Next round will be held in Monza in two weeks’ time.
