Rosberg leads Mercedes 1-2 in Monza

Nico Rosberg has achieved today the seventh win of the season and his first one in Monza. As a consequence, he gets closer to Hamilton in the Championship. The British finished second after a poor start. Vettel and his Ferrari have achieved the third position.

Green light, Rosberg started fast and took the lead, followed by Vettel and Raikkonen. Hamilton did not start as good as always and fell to sixth place. In the next lap, Nasr crashed with Palmer, and both had to retire. Hamilton got P5 easily, but was unable to beat Bottas for P4 until lap 11.

In lap 15, the drivers whose strategy was based in two stops, started to pit. McLaren did bad pitstops with both drivers. On the other hand, Wehrlein suffered an engine problem and mechanics told him by radio that he had to retire.

The strategy that used Mercedes worked better than the one that used Ferrari. The Silver Arrows proposed the race with only one stop. Both drivers were on the soft tires and, around lap 20, they put the medium compound.

After the middle of the race, Kvyat had to retire. In lap 47, Ricciardo tried to attack Bottas for winning fifth place, and he got it in the first corner.

Rosberg was comfortably leading the race as Hamilton was 13 seconds behind him.

With only 2 laps to go, Alonso stopped for the third time in box and put super soft to take the fastest lap. Both Ferrari continued third and fourth, with Vettel 8 seconds behind Hamilton.

Finally, Rosberg took the victory. Hamilton conserves the top position in the championship, but only by 2 points. Vettel reached the finish line in third position, which caused the applause of all the Italian public. The drivers who completed the Top10 were Räikkönen, Ricciardo, Bottas, Verstappen, Perez, Massa and Hulkenberg.
