Nico Rosberg third victory of the season for the German who leads another one-two for Mercedes AMG with Lewis Hamilton on second place. In the last place of the podium is Felipe Massa who beats Vettel in the strategy and pit stop.
The Austrian Grand Prix is always special. It’s a grand prix in the nature and is a grand prix where Nico Rosberg had to win to close the gap with Lewis Hamilton and he did it. The runner-up of Formula 1 made an amazing start from second place to overtake Hamilton and lead the race flag to flag.
The third place was for Felipe Massa who took the place thanks to the mistake that Ferrari mechanics did in the pit stop of Sebastian Vettel that makes him finished on fourth position.
Valtteri Bottas completes a good day for Williams Racing with fifth place. The Finn driver, who got his first Formula 1 podium here last season, started from sixth place but did a bad start that commit himself to comeback. The fifth-place-position in driver’s standings, overtook Verstappen and Hulkenberg, who after 24 Heures of Le Mans finished on a solid sixth place, to get the fifth and final place.
Hard-working Lotus men, Pastor Maldonado, get the fifth place after start from 11th spot in the grid. He overtook Nasr, Ricciardo, Pérez and in the final laps in a good racing battle, overtook Max Verstappen too to finish as the first Lotus, due to the abandon of Grosjean when was tenth when his gearbox says his end.
Not an easy day for Toro Rosso, who again finished in front of Red Bull with Max Verstappen on eight place taking 4 more points. Can’t say the same his teammate, Carlos Sainz who after a great strategy and maneuvers had to retire as a result of battery problems in MGU-K.
Sergio Pérez was ninth, and local team, Red Bull Racing score one point with Daniel Ricciardo in tenth place after a different race strategy. Out of top 10 are Felipe Nasr, Daniil Kvyat, Marcus Ericsson and Roberto Merhi who finished in his highest position in Formula 1 so far.
The McLaren’s have retired again. Jenson Button had mechanical problems and Fernando Alonso crashed at first lap with Kimi Räikkönen who spun at turn 2. Both drivers were ok after the contact. Will Stevens also abandoned in the early laps.
Lewis Hamilton continues in the lead of the championship with only 10 points of gap with Rosberg. Out of the battle, the Ferraris, followed by the Williams who are closing the gap with Räikkonen, and then the Red Bull’s.
