After 1:00 PM, Daniel Ricciardo improved his time to a 1:18.047, about to break the 1:18 barrier. After that, all teams stopped their activity on what was an ‘unofficial lunch pause’.

A few minutes after 2:00 PM, Nico Hülkenberg broke the silence on track and went on track with soft tyres and non-competitive times on his first laps. The German driver was followed by Sergey Sirotkin and Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish driver moved up to third place with a 1:18.658. Several teams completed laps during the following hour, with no major changes regarding the times.

The first red flag of the afternoon arrived when Brendon Hartley stopped the car at the end of the pit lane. The New Zealander driver could be pushed back inmediately and the season was stopped only for 16 seconds. When the green flag waved Kimi Räikkönen went on track. Several drivers and teams reached 100 laps, but times and positions were barely changing.

After that, Sirotkin, stopped on the pit lane, in front of Red Bull’s box and was quickly pushed by his mechanics to his box, so the red flag was not needed.

From there and until the end, the session was basically drivers doing some long runs and race pace simulations, so the times were not being improved. Most of the teams had already completed more than 100 laps.

With less than 15 minutes to go, Fernando Alonso returned to track. Hartley put the hypersoft tyres and improved his time. Charles Leclerc ran wide into the gravel trap with five minutes to go and caused a red flag that ended the session.

Ricciardo kept the best time followed by both Mercedes. The Aussie was the driver with the most laps done, with 165; but Renault was the team with the most laps, with 190. McLaren was the team with less laps, with only 54 after losing more than five hours. Testing will re-start tomorrow at 09:00 AM local, with only two days until the end of pre-season.
