René Binder joins Rapax for F2 in Jerez

It’s a comeback for René Binder who joins Rapax for the 2nd to last FIA Formula 2 Round in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

The Austrian, who is currently competing in the Formula V8 3.5 championship, is set to replace Roberto Merhi. He will be the fourth driver at the wheel of car number 19, following the steps of Johnny Cecotto, Sergio Canamasas and Roberto Merhi.

Binder is no rookie to the series, he has competed in over 35 GP2 race weekends with different teams. Since his first GP2 race weekend in 2012, he has always made a guest appearance in at least one round and this year is no different. Even though the 25-year-old is no stranger to the series, he has never really managed to excel. He only finished a handful of races in the points and went quite unnoticed for the rest.

As he is set for his first F2 weekend here in Jerez, there’s not really any expectations as to how he will do. Even though he has already raced at the circuit earlier this year finishing with points scoring results, we’ll wait and see how Rapax’s new recruit will do.
