Red Bull trio discuss on the surprise move of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari from F1 2025 onward, away from Mercedes.

The move of Hamilton from Mercedes to Ferrari from F1 2025 did surprise most of the grid. Some knew about the situation, but most were caught out considering the loyalty that the Brit showed towards the German outfit with whom he has won the titles with.

Amid many of the responses, the Red Bull trio of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Christian Horner shared their thoughts on the matter during the RB20 launch event. All of them called it interesting but are waiting to see how things unfold.

Perez wants to see how he works with Mercedes before the eventual move, while Horner feels Hamilton has already made a bold choice earlier and so he is used to it. Verstappen reckons if he is happy then it is all good, but personally he hasn’t thought about his own move if he will ever do it.

Hamilton’s move, first thoughts –

Verstappen: “I mean, at the end of the day, if someone wants to drive a Ferrari, and especially someone like Lewis, having achieved so much, if that’s his dream and goal, then And, again, we don’t know the talks that they had, right? That Mercedes and Ferrari, what has been promised, what they think is coming. So, you can’t give an honest assessment from our side, why you made that decision. But if he is happy with that move, then he should go. So, I think it will look cool. And, of course, I hope for them that it’s going to be a success, but you don’t know yet.”

Will you move out anytime –

Verstappen: “I don’t know, like, I don’t want to sound disrespectful or whatever. I mean, I have a lot of respect for the brand Ferrari, but I’m very happy where I’m at the moment. So, you know, I’m comfortable in the environment that I’m in, you know. So, for me, it’s not something that I’m looking for to change or whatever. But, again, in my life also, I know that you always, from what I’ve experienced so far, never say never with things. But, for me now, no, it’s not even in my head. But, again, it’s only Formula One. I want to do more things than Formula One as well.”

Hamilton’s move –

Perez: “Interesting, but more than that, I think the dynamics are going to be interesting to watch from the outside. Having a driver that is moving teams, we all know how jealous the teams are on sharing Lewis has been many years there and he will be taking a lot of knowledge to another team. That will be some interesting dynamics to watch from the outside.”

Horner: “First of all, I think everybody was surprised, probably even his existing team, about Lewis’ move to Ferrari, but he has obviously seen something there that he believes in that serves him better than staying where he is. I think for Formula 1, a Lewis-Ferrari tie-up is really exciting. Obviously he still has a season to go with his existing team, but he has proven in the past that he is not shy of making brave decisions. His move from McLaren to Mercedes for all intensive purposes, not to be the right one at the time, but proved to be an inspired one. So I’m sure he will think about it long and hard, and Formula 1, a Hamilton and Ferrari tie-up is pretty exciting.”
