Red Bull works on adjustments for F1 2027 ADUO

Red Bull Racing is collaborating with the FIA to make adjustments to the Additional Development and Improvement Opportunities (ADUO) system of Formula 1. This information was provided by the team’s director, Laurent Mekies, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the initial assessments of the system.

The ADUO, which has been in effect since 2026, evaluates the performance of the V6 engines at the end of each quarter and grants at least one upgrade token to manufacturers that are at a disadvantage. Initially, it was expected that Mercedes would be the benchmark of the championship, but surprisingly, Red Bull has been highlighted as the leader, as the system only considers the internal combustion engine.

Although the current standings have placed Red Bull as the leader, the FIA has acknowledged that there are “weaknesses” in the current system. Mekies stated that they have presented their position and requested improvements in the evaluation methodologies for the upcoming year.

Currently, Mercedes has received one token for being between 2% and 4% down on power, while Ferrari, Audi, and Honda have obtained two tokens for being above 4%. Red Bull, on the other hand, has not received any token, but Mekies emphasizes that there are other ways to improve vehicle performance.

The advancements of the single-seater have been significant, with constant improvements to the RB22 model. The last major update was introduced for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen finished second. This race showcased the team’s ability to effectively develop and adjust the vehicle throughout the season.

Mekies concluded that constant development is a distinctive feature of Red Bull Racing and that they will continue to work to maximize the performance of their vehicles, regardless of the limitations imposed by the ADUO system.
