Red Bull and Verstappen start the weekend on top

Max Verstappen led a Red Bull one-two in the first free practice session of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix. Ricciardo was 2nd ahead of Vettel and the Mercedes.

With the Mercedes being the only ones not using the ultra soft tyre in this session, the first part of the free practice was dominated by Red Bull. The Mercedes set the early pace with the soft tyre, the hardest available this weekend, but they were quickly left behind by the Red Bull and Vettel, who was 4 tenths behind Verstappen. The Dutch led 0.049s ahead of his teammate Ricciardo.

In the second part of the session, the drivers tested with a high load of fuel. Rosberg locked up and crashed against the wall, putting an end to his session 12 minutes earlier than expected. Grosjean didn’t set a time due to ERS issues in his Haas.
