Raul Fernández dominates in Mandalika with a spectacular performance from Aprilia

The first day of the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix has been marked by a series of impressive practices in Mandalika, where Raul Fernández has managed to break the lap record leading a surprising 1-2-3 for Aprilia.

The team’s riders, Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, have been the only ones to come close to Fernández’s mark, finishing less than a second off his consistently fast time throughout the day on the island of Lombok.

In the championship, Pedro Acosta from KTM and Marc Márquez with Ducati secured their spots in Qualifying 2, finishing in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Both showed remarkable performance, despite having a considerable margin of time to improve.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, rider of VR46 Ducati, was the sixth fastest, while his teammate, Franco Morbidelli, also made it to Q2 finishing in ninth position.

Fabio Quartararo caught the spectators’ attention by achieving the seventh fastest time, despite a spectacular crash that made him slide through the gravel. After receiving attention in the Yamaha pit, he returned to improve his mark and secure his spot in Q2.

Alex Márquez had a bit of luck as he managed to stay in the top 10 despite crashing with a few minutes remaining. The resulting yellow flags likely worked in his favor, as did the late crashes of Alex Rins and Enea Bastianini.

Francesco Bagnaia dodged the yellow flags and, with a time, achieved the tenth position at the last moment of the session.

The Gresini rider, Fermin Aldeguer, has had a very complicated day, with a fall in the morning, another incident during the practice session, and a technical issue just when he needed to clock a time. With this performance, it will be difficult for him to repeat the success he achieved in the last edition of 2025.

The only Aprilia that did not stand out was that of Ai Ogura, who also fell in the morning and did not find speed during the session. Competing in Q1 with Bastianini, who suffered two crashes in the afternoon, will have to work hard to shine again as he did in Japan.
