Ralph Boschung took maiden GP3 Series win in a race mostly spend behind safety car. Alexander Albon was on the podium once again and Antonio Fuoco claimed his first podium of the season as Charles Leclerc did not finish the race.
The drivers faced wet conditions as it was raining no the circuit for a couple of hours. Jake Hughes started on reverse pole position ahead of Nirei Fukuzumi and Matthew Parry. The race started under the safety car. Kevin Jörg did not manage starting on the grid.
Fukuzumi stopped on track at the first lap before managing to go back to the pits. A few drivers such as Konstantin Tereschenko and Tatiana Calderon went wide even behind the safety car. Richard Gonda, who had received a ten-place-penalty after an accident in the first race, stopped on track, betraying a lack of reliability of the new GP3 car.
After nine laps under safetycar, the latter got back in the pits. At the restart, a lot of confusion happened as Hughes lost control following a contact with Parry. After one racing lap, Boschung was leading from Albon and Fuoco. Leclerc dropped back to six-teenth place as Tereschenko, Isaakyan and Nandy retired.
The safety car got back on track to retrieve Tereschenko’s and Isaakyan’s car for two laps. The safety car went in and Boschung nailed his restart which was not the case of Leclerc who hit Calderon’s car before his lose car hit Dennis’ one.
After that third safety car period, the race ran out of time and Ralph Boschung took his maiden GP3 Series ahead of Alexander Albon and Antonio Fuoco. De Vries, Aitkan, Hughes, Parry, Stuvik, Janos and Ferrucci completed the top 10.
