Fans have voted Kimi Raikkonen’s historic victory with Ferrari in US GP as the best race of the 2018 F1 season.
The official website of F1 asked the fans to vote for the best race of the 2018 season from among the 21 that was held and the answer was clear from them as they gave US GP a landslide win with 30 percent of votes going its way.
The 2018 edition of the US GP at the Circuit of the Americas will no doubt be remembered for a long-long time especially because of the famous victory for Raikkonen after a wait of 113 races since his last win in 2013’s Australian GP.
The Finn together with Ferrari out-smarted both Mercedes and Red Bull Racing on pace and strategy as well to win his lone race of 2018 with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen ending up second and third respectively.
In second was the Azerbaijan GP which earned 13 percent of votes by the fans. Hamilton had won the event after teammate Valtteri Bottas’ puncture with Raikkonen and Racing Point’s Sergio Perez completing the podium.
There was no shortage of drama on the streets of Baku which saw a dramatic crash between the Red Bull drivers when Verstappen hit the back of Daniel Ricciardo – much to the disappointment of the drivers and the team as a whole.
A minor collision then involving Sebastian Vettel while battling for the lead helped Perez to sneak onto the podium for 2018’s only non-Top 3 teams finish. The British GP was then voted as third best with nine percent of votes.
The race in Silverstone was nothing short of drama as well especially after the collision between Hamilton and Raikkonen on the opening lap with the former not hugely happy with the run of events in the races leading up to British GP from Ferrari side.
Further action saw Vettel emerge as the winner on Hamilton’s home soil with Hamilton second from Raikkonen – who served his penalty and still was able to finish on the podium. The post-race verbal shenanigans only added to the controversy.
The German GP lined up fourth with eight percent of votes with the race at Hockenheim proving to be crucial in the 2018 title fight eventually after the crash of Vettel in tricky conditions when he held the top spot comfortably at one stage.
The changing conditions and Vettel’s retirement helped Mercedes snatch the win with Hamilton on top from Bottas and Raikkonen, as the German manufacturer won it huge in their home grand prix event.
The Top 5 was rounded by Austrian GP with six percent of votes which had its share of drama when both the Mercedes drivers were forced to retire due to mechanical gremlins. It paved way for Verstappen and Red Bull to pick up the win in the latter’s home event.
Raikkonen was up their again to finish second, while Vettel rounded out the podium positions. Interestingly, the list did not carry or mention races like China, France, Belgium, Italy and Mexico.
