Kimi Räikkönen led the first free practice session of the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi. Valtteri Bottas was 2nd ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The session started with bad news for Renault test driver Sergey Sirotkin. The Russian’s car stopped shortly after leaving the pits and was unable to make it back on track. After the first half of the session, Ocon lost the engine cover of his Force India, causing a red flag. The cars have been very unstable on track and there have been many mistakes, such as Vettel‘s spin with 15 minutes to go.

Räikkönen topped the timesheets less than a tenth ahead of Bottas. Hamilton was 3rd, 6 tenths behind, and Verstappen and Vettel were 4th and 5th, 1,1s off. Ricciardo, Pérez, Massa, Stroll and Ocon completed the top 10.
