The start was clean with no problem for the drivers but Takuma Sato has taken a good gap from the start of the race maintaining its top position . Reay made a great start followed by Kannan . Power and Dixon completed the top5. Helio Castronves three-time winner this circuit made a great start from 10th position to 6th
Takuma Sato was getting the best performance to his first soft tires getting a comfortable advantage over the other drivers. At that time Castroneves began to improve their records and be the fastest rider on track ahead overtaking Reay (which came into the pits on lap 25 ) and Takuma Sato (entered in boxes 26). Brazilian racer commanded the race at that time by one turn and go into the pits on 27. The positions would be like this Castroneves first and Castroneves, Reay to 3 seconds. But surprisingly Power strategy that he entered in pits laps ago was the best one and get closer to the Japanese and later he could overtake him. Great strategy for Will Power and Penske Team

Sato would not be able to get better performance to the black tyres as this situation made Power to get a gap of more than 10 seconds. Castroneves and Reay were unable to overtake the Japanese. After the second pit the Brazilian could overtake the Japanese with a pit stop from his Penske team and different tire choice. Reay also would do the same but in your case with the hard tires. But another star would appear in the fight. Mike Conway would be placed in the third position
Castroneves had already cut almost the entire distance with Power when from Kimball crashed into the protection in Turn 1 and forced a yellow flag on Lap 75. The strategy would change totally at that time. After pit Power stays in its position very slightly from Castroneves . Reay would go back to forward positions, all drivers and now with the soft tires except Conway ( seventh at that time) , Dixon 5th , 6th Kanaan , Briscoe, Saavedra and Montoya

The race would be restarted with 28 laps to go when an accident happens. Power made a slow start and other drivers tried to overtake before green flag appeared, as result a traffic jam and accident between Andretti and Hawksworth
The following restart, this time without accidents, Reay getting through to the second position. The main drivers were doing qualifying laps especially Reay and Power, a nice fight with a close gap each lap but eventually the winner was Will Power who gets big win with a great strategy and the championship lead. Final standings, Power, Reay, Castroneves, Dixon, Pagenaud, Kannaan. Montoya 14th adapts back to the Indycar Series. Next appointment in Long Beach on 13th April
