Fabio Quartararo led Petronas Yamaha SRT teammate Franco Morbidelli on Day 1 of the Misano MotoGP test.
The two Petronas Yamaha SRT riders had fun at the top of the field with Quartararo (1m32.996s) leading teammate Morbidelli (1m33.019s) by just the 0.023s at the end of the first day of Misano MotoGP test.
In fact, the Frenchman was the only rider to dip in the 1m32s bracket. In third was Honda’s Marc Marquez (1m33.222s) with three bikes at his disposal again, ahead of the two Yamaha factory riders.
It was Maverick Vinales (1m33.247) in fourth ahead of Valentino Rossi (1m33.296s), with both testing the second variant of the 2020 engine. The Italian had three bikes at his disposal as they also ran a new exhaust.
KTM’s Pol Espargaro (1m33.588s) slotted in sixth with teammate Johann Zarco (1m33.690s) in eighth as Ducati reserve Michele Pirro was (1m33.650s) seventh. The KTM riders ran items on chassis and engine.
In ninth was the returning Joan Mir (1m33.763s) abode the Suzuki as the Spaniard shakes off his injury from Brno test, with LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami (1m33.777s) rounding the Top 10.
Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller (1m33.802s) was 11th from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (1m33.842s) as Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso (1m33.854s) ended up 13th after running in the afternoon session, having being cleared to test.
The other Pramac of Francesco Bagnaia (1m33.945s) finished 14th from Suzuki’s Alex Rins (1m34.003s), who had a crash in the morning session at Turn 8. Avintia Ducati’s Tito Rabat (1m34.242s) finished 16th
Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone (1m34.243s) slotted in 17th as he also tested a new set-up like Espargaro along with electronics, chassis and engine. The other factory Ducati of Danilo Petrucci (1m34.273s) was only 18th.
LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow (1m34.411s) was 19th from Tech 3 KTM’s Hafizh Syahrin (1m34.599s) with Avintia’s Karel Abraham (1m34.696s) in 21st. The Czech rider left the track early as he was suffering from injury.
Behind, Honda’s reserve Stefan Bradl (1m34.774s) slotted in 22nd with two bikes at his disposal as KTM’s reserve Dani Pedrosa (1m34.976s) was 23rd after running in the afternoon. He will do full day on Friday.
After a slightly painful end to the British GP, Honda’s Jorge Lorenzo (1m35.722s) hoped to have a better outing at Misano MotoGP test but he was forced to leave early like Tech 3’s Miguel Oliveira (1m39.792s) in 24th and 25th.
