Qualifying 24h of Nurburgring: Ferrari secures pole while Verstappen starts fifth

In the lead-up to the race, the Ferrari #45 of Kondo has secured pole position for the second race of the 24h of Nurburgring in 2026. Thierry Vermeulen, behind the wheel of the Ferrari, set an impressive time of 8:10.275 minutes, improving the record by the slightest margin.

David Jahn, who had secured pole in the previous race, was just one thousandth of a second away from Vermeulen’s time in the BMW Gamota #23. The Belgian driver expressed his gratitude to his team for the improvements made between the two races.

The Scherer-Phx Audi #16, driven by Haase, Sims, and B. Green, will start from third position, while the Manthey Porsche #911 “Grello” will occupy fourth place. The Mercedes Winward #3, which was driven by Lucas Auer during the qualifying, starts fifth, with Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen not participating in this qualifying round.

The qualifications consisted of an individual test where each driver had two laps to record their best time. The track, which started wet in the morning, began to dry, allowing the vehicles to use slick tires, adding excitement to the day.

It’s important to note that not everything was positive, as Alessio Picariello from the Dunlop Porsche #17 suffered an accident during the warm-up lap that forced him to retire. Picariello, who lost control of the vehicle, admitted he made an error with the tires, causing damage that ended his session.

However, the battle for pole remained intense until the final moments, with several drivers improving their times despite the presence of some yellow flags due to accidents. Ultimately, none of them were able to surpass Vermeulen’s record, who is the son of Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen.

The second race of the 24h of Nurburgring will start at 1:00 PM, promising an intense and exciting day for motorsport fans.
