The rain became the main protagonist and as a surprise guest at the beginning of the day delaying the qualyfing during some hours. The rain was so intense that fans were evacuated the stands and was not safe for pilots and fans neither. Finally lower rain was enough to start the sesion (the qualyfing of Indy Lights was canceled) and fans could enjoy the show.
After just over three hours of delay and with the still wet track started the fight in the first qualifying group where Tony Kanaan surprisingly classified hitching weather conditions for standing first in the group and qualify for the next round. Also take advantage of the red flags of Rahal and Hinchcliffe. Two of the fastest drivers of the weekend. Finally drivers that get qualified for the next round would Kanaan, Reay, Conway, Andretti, Castroneves and Briscoe.
In the second group the fight would be in wet also, in this case all the session was clean and all the drivers were able to show their potential to the inclement weather. Sato would be in first place ahead of Dixon, Muñoz, Hawksworth, Power and Saavedra. Montoya would be eliminated in this group.
In the top12 best drivers, some drivers begin to bet on dry tires and more specifically the soft compound. Times were improving as track got dried. Sato demonstrated during the weekend and he replaced first, followed by Reay, Power, Andretti, Dixon Kaanan and dried. Andretti and Kannan were so slow during whole weekend but the could take their experience to get top6. Castroneves would be eliminated in this session, very fast driver on this track
Finally in the last six sesion best drivers Sato pole would look slightly threatened by Kanaan but Sato finally would take two tenths of a second to take hold in the lead. Finally the positions of the top 6 would end like this: Sato, Kanaan, Reay, Power, Dixon, Andretti
