Presentation Sauber C33-Ferrari

Sauber has revealed its 2014 Formula 1 car, the Ferrari-engined C33.

The new Sauber will make its public debut on the first day of pre-season testing at Jerez on Tuesday, and it is hoped the car will allow the team to build on its strong end to last season.

Chief designer Eric Gandelin: “We know what kind of package we’ve put together here and we are happy with what we have achieved, but it is difficult to forsee what shape our rivals are in. The path we have followed with the design of the Sauber C33-Ferrari allows us maximum flexibility, so that we can react quickly. It is also clear that reliability will be an important factor in the first few races in particular.”

Monisha Kaltenborn: “Even more so than in previous years, any impression of how the teams stand against each other will only emerge once winter testing has been completed. That is also when we will announce our goals for the season. One thing’s for sure: reliability will be of the essence, especially at the beginning of the season. We learnt a great deal during this time and will be applying the lessons in the new season.”

The new car looks different and strictly organically contours, attention is drawn to the low position of the nose fairing, as required by the technical regulations in 2014, and also displaced forward and laterally spaced front wing pylons to maximize air flow underneath. The color scheme has remained the same, it is dominated by corporate dark gray, against which stand out white stripes and red logos of sponsors.

The team also confirmed that in addition to the basic structure of the riders, Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil in the upcoming season, she will work with the two test pilots – Guido van der Garde, who is also regarded as reserve driver, and Sergey Sirotkin.
