Grid and time penalties handed down for collisions
Mitch Evans and Jon Lancaster have both been handed five place grid position penalties for tomorrow’s sprint race, and Stefano Coletti was handed a time penalty, after the race stewards judged them to have caused collisions in separate incidents in this afternoon’s feature race in Abu Dhabi.
Lancaster jumped a kerb while trying to overtake Tom Dillmann in the first lap of the race, getting airborne and landing on the Frenchman as a result, while Evans was judged to have collided with Sergio Canamasas at the final corner on lap 23, with both incidents prompting safety car periods to remove the stricken vehicles.
Coletti was also penalised for causing a collision with Daniel de Jong: as the Monegasque driver was able to continue he was initially handed a drive through penalty, but as he was unable to perform this during the race it was converted to a 20 second penalty, dropping him behind the Dutchman to 20th position.
