Porsche has announced a surprising change in the ownership structure of Manthey Racing, the company based in Nürburgring. The German brand has raised its stake from 51% to 67%, while just a year ago rumors circulated about a possible sale of its stake. With this decision, Porsche reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with Manthey, which goes beyond competitions with the vehicle known as “Grello”.
In a statement, Manthey Racing explained that this step aims to deepen its successful collaboration, with the goal of expanding the joint offering, which includes performance kits and exclusive track experiences, as well as customized vehicles in limited editions.
Effects of the increased stake
With this change, the Raeder brothers, directors of Manthey, have reduced their stake from 20% to 16.5%. The Raeder now hold 33% of the shares, compared to the 40% they previously held. It is also noteworthy that Olaf Manthey, the founder of the team, has relinquished all his shares and will remain linked to the company as an advisor, although he ceases to be a co-owner.
A new strategy for Porsche
This restructuring is occurring at a time when Porsche is also reviewing its investment portfolio, considering the option to reduce some of them for financial reasons. The new head of Porsche, Michael Leiters, has presented a strategy called “Sportwagenschmiede ’35” aimed at restoring the brand after a period of significant losses.
According to this new strategy, Porsche is expected to be more focused on its range of models and to strengthen its concept of “Manufaktur”, seeking to position itself prominently in the ultra-luxury segment. Manthey Racing’s efforts align directly with these objectives, as the company generates high-performance kits and develops solutions on the tracks.
Strengthening the collaboration between Porsche and Manthey
Porsche has stated that in the future, its activities will be divided into three areas: Performance, Exclusivity, and Heritage, under the designation “Home of Sports Cars”. Manthey Racing will therefore play an important role in designing complete vehicle concepts in the limited production segment.
Additionally, Manthey manages the so-called “Porsche Track Experience”, which allows customers to drive Porsche cars on Grand Prix circuits, thus showcasing its commitment to the performance and quality that characterize the brand. This increased collaboration provides economic stability to Manthey at a time when the automotive customization sector faces significant challenges.
