Valtteri Bottas stole pole position from Lewis Hamilton at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. Sebastian Vettel completed the top 3.
Stroll barely made it through Q1 on P15, 9 tenths behind teammate Massa. This left Grosjean in the knockout zone together with Gasly, Wehrlein, Ericsson and Hartley.
Both Spaniards on the grid were eliminated in Q2, with Massa improving his laptime for P10 in the last seconds of the session. Alonso was P11 ahead of Sainz, Vandoorne, Magnussen and Stroll.
In Q3, one attempt was enough for Bottas to set an unbeatable time. Hamilton tried to improve with a second lap, but a mistake left him out of the battle. Vettel could only be 3rd today, half a second off the pole. Ricciardo set an impressive laptime which gave him P4 ahead of Räikkönen and Verstappen. Hülkenberg, Pérez, Ocon and Massa completed the top 10.
