MotoGP shared Episode 1 of its new podcast ‘Last On The Brakes’ where Honda team principal Alberto Puig discussed on multiple topics.
The first episode of MotoGP Last On The Brakes podcast had Puig discuss about his career, Marc and Alex Marquez, Honda and more. Here’s the full summary of what all was discussed:
- The opening discussion with Puig was with regards to M Marquez and the better opportunity to prepare for 2020 MotoGP season, even though he thought he was prepared anyway.
- From there, they questioned the Honda team principal about how he is feeling personally amid this global crisis, before asking about his time as a rider.
- Specifically, they asked about his performance as the first Spanish driver to win the Spanish GP, back in the nineties. Puig discussed the whole of that season, including the nasty accident at the French GP that year in 1995 – he said that crash made him more fearful, and less competitive.
- Speaking further about fear among MotoGP riders, Puig stated that the point you feel this fear is the point you must retire, as many have done. As an example, he discussed about Jorge Lorenzo and talked about his retirement, prior to diving into his career off-track in the championship, as a team manager and talent spotter.
- Puig first explained how he wound up as a talent spotter – he currently does with Asia Talent Cup – before he delved into what he looks for in a rider, etc. He said that a big mark of a good driver for him is how they get on their bike and start it; citing that it is a good show of attitude.
- After this, the Spaniard told the story of how he got his role at Honda as the MotoGP team manager. Puig also spoke about how this was for him personally, before he talked about M Marquez.
- He said the riding ace was a normal guy off-track, but an ‘animal’ on the tarmac Finally, the former rider discussed A Marquez being on the team, and spoke about what this means for the Marquez brothers and Honda.
