Nissan e.Dams Formula E racer and Red Bull Racing F1 reserve Sebastien Buemi drove the RB8 in Switzerland in a show event.
With a break between Hungarian GP and Belgium GP F1 races, Red Bull filled the gap for the fans with a showrun in Switzerland, at the foothills of the Jura Mountains, with Buemi driving the RB8 machine.
This is the Swiss racer’s first time with Red Bull after the Silverstone Pirelli tyre test, which was cut short after he had a crash due to a tyre failure. He drove the 2019 F1 car in the test but it was the 2012 car in Switzerland.
Buemi completed a series of flat-out runs along with performing donuts and burnouts with 36,000 fans present at the Grenchen Airport in Switzerland, which is 25km North of Bern.
“It’s a special event,” said Buemi. “It’s cool for the fans, but also for the drivers, mainly because you get to do whatever you want with the car on a big airfield like this.
“It’s an amazing feeling, especially because we’re in Switzerland and I don’t get too many opportunities to drive in front of my home crowd. So, yeah, a very special day.”
Buemi wasn’t alone though as he had other Red Bull motorsport athlete for the event, which included European Drift Champions Elias & Joe Hountondji and Freestyle Motocross World Champion Mat Rebeaud.
On air, they had Red Bull Air Race stars Matthias Dolderer and Nicolas Ivanoff, who took to the skies for some exhilarating runs at speeds of over 370 km/h, to assist the drivers/riders on ground.
