Mercedes has revealed snippets of the ongoing redevelopment work at its Brackley site to make it a sustainable campus for F1.
Amid expansion work at the bases of Aston Martin and McLaren, its counterpart Mercedes has revealed details of its own expansion at the Brackley site after purchasing nearby land which includes a former railway cutting in the region.
Mercedes expects that the expansion will not only help the local area, but also help its own employees for its well-being with modern facility and safe environment. This is the next stage in the 70 million pounds redevelopment project they are in.
The work has been ongoing since 2017 with more than 30 projects already completed. They have already moved ‘The Clean Rooms, Race Bays, Machine Shop and Subassembly Workshops’ to the new facility as revealed some time back.
This phase of development will see a 30 million pounds investment. The new buildings includes a ‘new Health and Wellbeing Centre, a gateway Marketing Building at the entrance to the site and a brand-new parking structure’ – a part of this will be shared with the Brackley Town Football Club.
The parking structure will feature a full solar array which will aide in charging of over 70 electric vehicles from onsite and offsite sources. At the new site, Mercedes is aiming for a 50% reduction in water consumption per person per day and achieve greater than 60% of recycling of their office waste.
Mercedes wishes to create a legacy for its F1 team which goes beyond the race track, by involving and supporting in local community work along with job creation. “Our campus was originally built to accommodate 350 people,” said Toto Wolff. “Today, we are at 1,250. The development of the campus over the last five years was done at an astonishing pace.
“Now, what we are planning to do is to expand with multiple new buildings and creating a modern style campus. There will be breakout areas, restaurants, and a state-of-the-art gym and marketing building. This is all being done for our people.
“Here, form follows function – not the other way round. It’s all being done to create a great place to work and spend time. We want it to become its own little village, with all the amenities and benefits that you would expect from a Silicon Valley style environment,” summed up Mercedes F1 chief.
