Sergio Perez’s father Antonio Perez Garibay was taken to the hospital due to shock he got from late F1 Azerbaijan GP collision.

The 65-year-old politician fainted in his bathroom in his home in Mexico City after the F1 Azerbaijan GP. He was rushed to the local hospital where he was diagnosed with pre-infarction, a phenomenon which happens just before a heart attack.

The stress from the late collision was seemingly too hard to bear for Gariby. His son Red Bull’s Perez was in a strong fight for Azerbaijan GP win against Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri towards the end of the grand prix, when Carlos Sainz joined the party.

While attempting a move on Leclerc for second, Sainz passed Perez. In the duel to reclaim third, the two collided in a huge crash. The stewards deemed no one to blame, but the stress from the incident was seemingly too hard to bear for Perez’s father.

A statement from his press – as sent to Planet Network – stated: “The incident occurred following his son’s impact during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, in a collision with driver Carlos Sainz. Perez Garibay was found unconscious in the bathroom of his Mexico City home, where paramedics attended to provide immediate medical attention.

“He was rushed to a hospital in the capital, where he is currently under medical observation and in stable condition. We thank you for your expressions of support and affection.” A further statement was released by the racing organisation Scuderia Perez.

It stated: “Mr. Perez Garibay is stable but remains in intensive care under constant medical review, focusing mainly on his heart and other vital organs. The specialists in charge have indicated that his condition continues to be closely monitored. On behalf of Mr. Antonio Perez Garibay and his entire team, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Mexican Red Cross for their prompt intervention, which was essential to safeguard his life.

“We also extend our appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and health personnel who are treating him in a hospital in Mexico City. According to medical reports, Mr. Pérez Garibay will remain hospitalised for a few more days to continue his recovery. We thank everyone for their support and solidarity at this time. Sincerely yours. Antonio Perez Garibay Team.”

While Perez Sr continues to recover and stay in the hospital, his son is already in Singapore for this weekend’s grand prix. The Baku result was going to be a big break for the Mexican amidst the lull he has faced and the down run that Red Bull is facing.
