Sergio Perez is in no hurry to decide his future whether in F1 or elsewhere after things happened quickly, as he wants to spend time with family first.
In what can be described as his first public appearance since his Red Bull and F1 exit, Perez opened up on his future course when speaking at a conference in Mexico. He didn’t go into the details of his exit, where he is getting replaced by Liam Lawson in 2025.
But when asked about a potential return to F1 and or any other championship, Perez was firm about taking his time to decide anything. Since everything happened quickly, the Mexican didn’t have anything else on his mind. For now, he wants to take at least six months to decide on anything.
“Right now I am in an incredible, dream position, and I didn’t even realize where I was standing, so if you ask me right now, the truth is I don’t know,” said Perez as per LATAM media. “I am very happy with my life, very excited about what lies ahead. Without a doubt, if a good and interesting project comes my way, I will definitely consider it and think about it, but everything will come in its own time.
“For now, it is months… my priority now is to enjoy myself, to do things that I have not done; to travel, to be with my family and in the next 6 months, I will know what … I will make a decision about what I want as the next step in my career. It’s too early to give an answer as to whether I intend to return to Formula 1.
“Everything happened so quickly at the end of last season, I didn’t expect to leave the team,” summed up Perez, who potentially has an offer from Red Bull in a non-driving role, much like Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian too is taking a time-off after he was dropped post the Singapore GP in 2024.
For now, Perez is looking to spend time with his family and do things which he missed while he was away racing in F1. “My biggest motivation now is to guide my children along the right path and be more present in their lives,” he continued. “I am very excited to be with my family because in F1 you only think about being a better driver, preparing yourself better, you don’t have time for anything else.
“Like now, I have a football tournament with my children in three weeks and we are going to travel around Mexico. I wish he do well in the tournament, that I can enjoy it a lot with my son,” summed up Perez.
