Pedro Acosta warns about the risks of the MotoGP calendar

Pedro Acosta, rider of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, has expressed his concern about the impact that the intense format and current calendar of MotoGP may have on the longevity of the riders’ careers. In a press conference ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Acosta discussed the effect of regular and intensive competitions on his generation of riders.

Acosta, at just 21 years old and with two seasons of MotoGP under his belt, has acknowledged that the demands of the current calendar could reduce career longevity. “It’s a good idea to have more two-week intervals between races,” he commented. “What I feel is that now the races for the riders will be shorter.”

With a competition format that includes important sessions throughout all days of the 22 weeks of racing, Acosta has stated that this pressure can lead to excessive stress. “There’s no time to say: ‘Okay, I’ll go out on track and take it step by step,'” he added, emphasizing that the current conditions could exceed the limits of the riders’ capacities.

Acosta also touched on the topic of speed injection risks in the existing format. “I think the sprint race is a good idea, just like reducing the duration of qualifying assignments,” he said, but warned that increasing risks every day can result in more injuries. “When the risk is higher, the probability of injuries is also higher,” he concluded.

With the rescheduling of the Qatar Grand Prix, the championship will move to Europe, with the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled to take place from April 24 to 26 as the next event.
