Pato O’Ward prioritizes his IndyCar career and rules out Formula 1

Pato O’Ward, driver for the Arrow McLaren team in IndyCar, has announced that his aspirations to compete in Formula 1 are behind him. In an appearance on Conor Daly’s podcast Speed Street, he expressed his satisfaction with his current career and his lack of interest in having a role as a reserve driver in F1.

O’Ward highlighted that, despite having valuable experiences in F1, he currently feels at a different point in his life. ‘I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had and what I’ve learned, but I’m happy with what I’m doing in IndyCar. I love this category and this is where I want to be,’ he stated.

The Mexican driver has been confirmed as a team member for the 2027 season, along with Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist. This season will be crucial for O’Ward, as it is the last year of his current contract with McLaren.

Additionally, O’Ward has stated that he has no interest in driving F1 vehicles, which have been heavily criticized by other drivers. He expressed his preference for IndyCar, which he considers the best environment for drivers seeking more competition. ‘I don’t need more fame or money. I’m in a position I never imagined when I was younger.’
