Dennis Olsen won his first ever race in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship during race 1 in Spa-Francorchamps after started from 3rd place. The Championship leader, Nyck de Vries finished 2nd and expands the gap points with Bruno Bonifacio who finished third.
During the morning qualifying, in Group A after a domain of Dennis Olsen (Prema Powerteam) finally Nyck de Vries (Koiranen GP) got the best lap time of the group and the best of whole category because in Group B, Jörg (Josef Kaufamann Racing) who dominated all the session group, finished only 2 tenths behind the Dutch driver.
We had a crazy start with Olsen taking the first place at turn 8, De Vries downs to third place and Jörg downs to fourth. But De Vries didn’t have enough with that position and overtook Amweg for second place at the end of first lap, meanwhile, Jörg was overtook by Albon and Bonifacio.
But on lap 3 the Safety Car went to track due to a crash between Charles Leclerc and Korneev. After the Safety Car, at the middle of the race time, went in, Amweg lost the podium place having been overtaken by Albon and Bonifacio at turn 7. Then Bonifacio overtook, at the same place, Albon to up in the last podium position.
With first, second, third, fourth and fifth place decided, the battle for sixth place with Orduzhev and Jörg was so thigh but the Russian Tech 1 Racing driver kept the place until the end. The same goes for seventh place (Jörg) and for eight places (Panis).
But the final places to get points were so hard to take. Hubert did a good comeback and took the ninth place with only 2 laps to go after overtook O’Keeffe, first, and then Pizzitola. The Manor MP Motorsport driver had many problems to keep that place during last lap when D’Agosto crash into him, and taking the final tenth place, Pizzitola dropped until 15th final place.
Top 10: Olsen, De Vries, Bonifacio, Albon, Amweg, Orduzhev, Jörg, Panis, Hubert, D’Agosto.
