Today second qualifying session started on time. Rain was the heaviest in the whole weekend and became even heavier when session already started.
Group B was first. First driver to leave the pit lane was Bruno Bonifacio. His first lap was really slow compared to yesterday’s; 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Laps were getting better despite drivers had to demonstrate his hability as track conditions were difficult and no dry lane was present. Cassidy was the driver that excelled with good times and making them even better while Bonifacio was unable to be on top 10. Aurélien Panis escalated to sixth after demonstrating great car control, saving the car in the second turn.
Drivers were starting their last laps. Romanov did so running wide in the first turn and Malja did the same in Dunlop. Cassidy was still in front at almost a second of his team mate, D’Agosto, who with a good lap put his car at just two tenths but being unable to fight for first position. Third place would be for Aitken, who with a good lap and despite being bothered by Malja, he would overtake the driver from Sweden and set a great first sector.
Group B turn. Nyck De Vries dominated the first laps, demonstrating great control on wet track and not making any error. First sector was the most wet of all and at mid session he was the only one where a dry lane was not present. Having a part of the track with better grip, other drivers started to set good times. Olsen and O’Keeffe were setting better laps as session gone on but the Norwish was affected for transit, while O’Keeffe was not as he won tenths after De Vries. Andrea Pizzitola set himself second after Olsen, a tenth away, after being bothered by Gachet. French driver saw his lap deleted after running wide outside of the track and rejoining violently, bothering Manor MP driver.
With Olsen still leader, drivers faced their last lap. Olsen set even a better lap and De Vries could only be second seven tenths away of the Norwish driver perfect lap, that also would permit him start from the pole position. Charles Leclerc was getting closer at less than a tenth away from Olsen to be able to start from second row in the grid, and in front of Nyck De Vries, yesterday’s race winner.
With Dennis Olsen having demonstraded great perseverance, Koiranen GP set their cars in three first rows of the grid and ready to try putting two of their drivers in podium. Charles Leclerc also demonstrated great level and makes himself a name to try ascending to Eurocup next season.
Second race will be this afternoon at 3:25 pm.
