The Haas driver, Ollie Bearman, has shared his experience after being contacted by Lewis Hamilton just after his Formula 1 debut with the Scuderia Ferrari during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2024.
Bearman was called in at the last minute to replace Carlos Sainz, who was forced to withdraw due to appendicitis. In his first race, the young driver managed to qualify in eleventh position and finished the race in seventh, a result that impressed both fans and experts.
In a recent appearance on the Up To Speed podcast, Bearman explained that Hamilton was one of the first to reach out to him, showcasing his genuine personality and support. “It’s really exciting that Lewis was one of the first to send me a message and come talk to me after the race,” he commented.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old British driver pointed out the importance of having the seven-time world champion by his side on the grid. “We are at very different points in our careers; he has achieved so much and continues with the same ambition, while I am just starting and wish to achieve as much as possible,” he added.
Bearman joined the Haas team full-time for the 2025 season, where he has outperformed his teammate, Esteban Ocon, in his debut season. He currently holds the seventh position in the drivers’ standings with 17 points, while Ocon sits in 15th place with just one point after the first three races of the season.
