The Finland Rally witnessed one of the most terrifying moments in Sebastien Ogier‘s career alongside his co-driver Julien Ingrassia this past Saturday. The duo, who were competing together again, suffered a dramatic accident while leading the event, when their car went off the track and crashed into some trees.
Despite the severity of the impact, both drivers managed to survive thanks to the good safety conditions of the Rally1 car. Both spent the night in the hospital as a precautionary measure, but emerged unharmed, although Ingrassia admitted that Ogier was quite shaken.
Ingrassia described the situation: ‘I saw Seb get out of the car and, as I wasn’t hurt, I followed protocol. I pressed the alert button to indicate we didn’t need emergency assistance. But when I turned around, I saw Seb lying on the grass and losing consciousness.’

After the accident, Toyota issued a reassuring report on the health of Ogier and Ingrassia, confirming that both were conscious and would be transferred to the hospital for further checks. Ingrassia, who hadn’t competed in five years, stated that the impact was hard, acknowledging that they entered the corner at a speed of around 140 km/h.
So far, there are no indicators of technical failure or driver error that would justify the accident, although a rut had caused the vehicle to be pushed left instead of turning right. ‘The latest generation of vehicles is incredibly robust, and that was a key factor in our survival.’
With recovery underway, driver Vincent Landais is expected to return alongside Ogier in the upcoming WRC events, while the rally community has come together to express their support and concern following this unsettling incident.
