Esteban Ocon says it was coming for him to take the veteran role in a F1 team, as he adds on partnering Oliver Bearman at Haas.
After Bearman was announced to race for Haas in F1 in 2025, the American outfit named Ocon as his teammate in a line-up of rookie and veteran. It is the Frenchman’s first foray as an experienced campaigner being pitted against a youngster.
They haven’t spent a huge time together but Ocon revealed about speaking with Bearman, with praise for the Brit. “I’ve spoken to him, in, actually in Budapest, that’s probably the first time that we met,” he said. “Ollie is a very young, exciting prospect in Formula 1, many people, are saying that he’s going to be a future world champion.
“And I can’t wait to be teaming up with him. As I said he’s going to bring also fresh blood into the team, new ideas. Like, I’m also going to try and add to the team. And I’m sure our collaboration is going to be great, to lead this team forward and hopefully going where we want to go,” summed up Ocon.
The Frenchman feels ready to take the veteran role as well. He doesn’t think Bearman needs his help considering his accolades but he will work together with the Brit to push Haas in reaching its goals. “It was going to come at some point, I guess,” said Ocon.
“Things turn around, I’ve always been the youngest, I felt coming in on every category. Things turn around. And the time goes by very quickly. But, no, I don’t think Ollie needs my help on anything. He probably has more experience with the team, than I will have next year.
“He’s been driving a lot in FP1 and testing as well. I’m probably going to have to ask him a lot more things than. I will have to give him tips. So there’s not going to be any of that. We’re just going to be very open on the whole situation and trying to get the team to the right technical way, very early on. that’s going to start for sure quite quickly,” summed up Ocon.
