The NIO 333 Formula E Team announced the retention of Oliver Turvey and signing of Ma Qing Hua as it also revealed its 2019/20 car.
With the 2019/20 Formula E season officially kicking-off on Tuesday with the Day 1 of the Valencia test, NIO 333 announced its driver line-up and also unveiled its car in an online launch. It will retain the services of Turvey, while has signed Hua to partner him.
The Chinese racer has been part of the team as he raced for them in 2017/18 season in two rounds. They signed Tom Dillmann in a full-time capacity for 2018/19 alongside Turvey but have replaced him with Hua as the team re-brands itself to be ‘NIO 333’.
The livery sees a change for 2019/20 season with blue and white remaining dominant on the car, with the addition of Chinese red and ‘333 Racing’ on sidepods. The NIO blue has a mix of indigo blue to make it a striking combination along with white and red.
The new team will be fully managed and operated by Lisheng Racing – which also runs the Chinese Touring Car Championship. Its European team based in Oxford, UK, is responsible for R&D and technical support as NIO continues to support them for a manufacturer status.
“Formula E has experienced a rapid expansion in the past few years and we are pleased to continue our participation in the championship,” said William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO. “We also appreciate the support from our new partner Lisheng Racing.
“With our joint efforts, I believe the new NIO 333 FE Team will be more competitive. I also wish Oliver Turvey and Ma Qing Hua great success in the coming season.” At the same time, Vincent Wang, CEO of NIO 333 team added:
“It’s our greatest pleasure to collaborate with NIO and participate in Formula E. NIO has achieved great results in the past, and the NIO 333 FE Team will thrive to live on that heritage.
“The championship is a great platform for Chinese motorsports to enter the world stage, and we are very happy to be here. We are ready to both join the FE family and to take on the challenges, and we hope that the team will continue to make progress with our efforts.”
