Nico Rosberg and Mercedes continue dominating in Barcelona

Nico Rosberg finished the third and last free practice fo the weekend on top. Lewis Hamilton was second, with both Mercedes drivers away from the rest.

Mercedes are still unstoppable. This time it was Nico Rosberg who finished the third free practice on the lead, followed closely by his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Nobody could be close to them.

The session started with a busy track, with all the drivers doing their installation laps. The last session before qualifying is always important, but it was specially for Sebastian Vettel, who couldn’t drive during the second free practice due to a failure in the system of his Red Bull car.

After the installation laps, Kevin Magnussen was the only one who was on track, while te rest were in boxes to make changes in the cars. Sebastian Vettel, Romain Grosjean and the two Caterham drivers joined Magnussen on track and they were the only ones who set a laptime with 45 minutes to go.

Slowly, the activity returned to the track. Kimi Raikkonen beat Magnussen’s time and Fernando Alonso took the lead minutes after. Romain Grosjean reported brake problems, continuing his troubled weekend.

When the Mercedes were on track, they went fastest. Nico Rosberg improved the fastest lap in one second. Lewis Hamilton went second when Rosberg was even quicker and his time was almost two seconds faster than the third place.

During the half of the season, the most part of the drivers were in pits. Williams started their runs and Massa went third, followed by Vettel in fourth.

Max Chilton caused a yellow flag that impeded improvements with 10 minutes to go and almost all the drivers returned to pits. With five minutes left on the clock, all the drivers except Chilton were in their last laps before the qualifying session. Alonso went third, one second slower than the Mercedes. In the end, Rosberg finished the practice on top in a new chapter of the Marcedes’ dominance.
