Nicki Thiim, Danish driver for the Abt Sportsline team, has shared his experiences after a difficult stint in the DTM driving a Lamborghini Huracan. With a single victory and one podium in 36 races, Thiim has reflected on his time with the Italian brand and the challenges he faced during this period.

After being released by Aston Martin to race with Lamborghini in the years 2022, 2024, and 2025, Thiim discovered that the Huracan GT3 was a car he did not fully connect with. “My head is still exploding because of this, as a race driver, you want to be constantly competitive. I have had sleepless nights because of this car,” he admitted.

One of the factors that complicated his experience was the competition with his teammate, Mirko Bortolotti, who is one of the top drivers with Lamborghini. Thiim acknowledged having learned a lot from him, even though he knew he was entering the competition at a disadvantage.

His first attempt with Lamborghini was brief and difficult, as after only two disappointing races in 2022, he parted ways with the T3 Motorsport team, which later went into insolvency. Rumors suggested that the Huracan had technical issues, which ultimately did not facilitate his adaptation.

In the following years, Thiim struggled to achieve better results, with a 13th position in the overall standings in 2024 and a third place at Zandvoort in 2025, which are still modest results for Abt. “To perform at the level of others, you have to spend every weekend on the track, constantly improving,” he pointed out.

Despite the frustrations, Thiim expresses gratitude towards his teams and acknowledges that each difficulty has made him stronger. Starting this season, he will return to drive an Aston Martin, and he hopes that his experience with the Huracan will prepare him to be more competitive. “With the Aston, I feel at home, it is a car that fits me perfectly,” he concluded, eager to see what he can achieve in the DTM from now on.
