Felipe Nasr maintains his ambition to secure a seat in the IndyCar Series, after achieving notable success in endurance competition with Porsche Penske Motorsport.
The 33-year-old Brazilian driver has been a constant support for the team, especially while Josef Newgarden recovers from a foot injury he suffered during his accident at the Indianapolis 500 last May. Nasr was set to enter the track during the sessions in Detroit and has recently remained available during the race weekend at Road America.
In a recent test at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Nasr drove the #2 Chevrolet after Newgarden decided not to participate for health reasons. He showed good pace, finishing just 0.0554 seconds behind his teammate David Malukas and just over a tenth of a second behind Scott McLaughlin.
“The test was very productive for me,” Nasr explained. “It was important for me to regain my rhythm after being out of the car since last October.”
Since joining the team in 2023, Nasr has achieved eight wins in endurance competition, including the recent series of victories at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Twelve Hours of Sebring. Now, with so many successes in his portfolio, the big question is whether the team owner, Roger Penske, will offer him a permanent opportunity in IndyCar.
When asked what he still needs to prove to secure a full-time seat, Nasr smiled and replied: “Oh, ask him. Ask him.”
