The NASCAR race held this Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway kicked off with a tumultuous start, marked by extreme weather conditions.
In an attempt to prevent bad weather conduct, the organizers moved the race start time earlier. However, the storm arrived earlier than expected, making it necessary to delay the event until close to the original hour.
The situation complicated when Carson Hocevar suffered a spin during the warm-up lap, a sign that conditions would be a decisive factor during the competition.
Despite the adversities, the track dried as the race progressed, turning what could have been a chaotic spectacle into an exciting and highly strategic night of competition. Kyle Larson, who finished in fifth place, shared his thoughts on the experience in New Hampshire.
“It was a lot of fun. We knew the track would go through different changes,” Larson stated after the race. “While we were in the wet conditions, we were trying to control the tire temperatures. That was crucial. Once we switched to the slicks, we were looking for the dry areas. Bell and I did a good job with that.”
Larson remarked that once conditions stabilized, the race followed its normal course in Loudon. “It was good to achieve the stage win. From there, everything was like any other event in Loudon. It was pretty free. We made good adjustments, but obviously, we need to improve a bit more. For us, it was a great competition in Loudon.”
Despite being in an unusual period without winning, Larson managed this Sunday to keep his position in seventh place overall, with the opportunity to compete for the title in the last race before the Chase begins. He expressed hope in being able to continue this positive trend. “We still have a lot to improve to be at the front and fight for wins. It’s good that in these last two weeks we have a good result, we just need to keep working hard. We’ve been doing that for the past two years, and I believe it will go well in the end. If you can’t win, try to be consistent.”
Larson’s year has been perplexing. He has achieved at least three wins each season since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, but this year he has not been able to celebrate a victory. Despite this, he has remained very close to the podium, with nine finishes in the top five this season, showcasing his consistency despite not having achieved the checkered flag.
This feeling of an imminent triumph seems increasingly palpable. If Larson manages to string together a winning streak just before the Chase begins, he would have the chance to defend his title and secure his third championship. If he succeeds, he would be only the tenth driver in NASCAR history to win consecutive titles.
