The junior driver for Williams, Kean Nakamura-Berta, has put behind a complicated Saturday by claiming the top spot in the qualifying for the second race of the Formula Regional Europe in Zandvoort.
The Prema driver dominated Group A with a time of 1m30.135s, surpassing Reno Francot from CL Motorsport by just 0.044s. The session was interrupted by a red flag when Gabriel Gomez had an incident six minutes from the end.
Before the stoppage, Nakamura-Berta had set the best times in the first two sectors but was unable to complete the lap due to the interruption. Once the session resumed, he increased his intensity and, with three minutes remaining, achieved the best time of the day.
The winner of the first race, Sebastian Wheldon from MP Motorsport, will line up alongside Nakamura-Berta in the front row after securing the best time in Group B.
In this category, Jan Przyrowski from RPM had set the initial pace with a time of 1m30.646s, but Wheldon made a spectacular 1m30.208s, clearly standing out. Drivers like Rashid Al Dhaheri and Newman Chi improved their positions in the final laps, relegating Alexandre Munoz from ART Grand Prix to fourth place.
Additionally, Salim Hanna from Prema, who had been one of the fastest competitors in the first race, only managed the eighth-best time, presenting an additional challenge for him in the upcoming competition.
In the early laps, Maximilian Popov from Trident was the one who set the best initial time. With the red flag, Emanuele Olivieri from R-ace GP emerged as a top competitor for the pole but could not improve his final mark and finished in third position.
