Number 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi of Joao Barbosa and Felipe Alburquerque has taken the victory in the 2 hours race of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship that has been held in the streets of Long Beach.
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya who is already an experienced driver in Long Beach, set the pole position in Friday’s afternoon qualifying session for the Acura Team Penske, achieving his maiden pole position in IMSA, and the first for Acura ARX-05 Prototype, with a lap time of 1:12.922.
The Acura number 6, finished ahead of Whelen Engineering Racing of Felipe Nasr and Mazda Team Joest of Harry Tincknell.
At the race, Alburquerque took the lead with 40 minutes remaining thanks to an impressive pit stop. Despite that, those who were leading most of the race were Juan Pablo Montoya and Felipe Nasr.
Second place was the number 2 Tequila Patrón ESM Nissan DPi of Ryan Dalziel and Scott Sharp who repeats second position like they did in 2017. Completes podium positions Jordan Taylor and Renger van der Zande for Wayne Taylor Racing who did not achieve a four-consecutive win at Long Beach.
In championship standings, Alburquerque-Barbosa (Mustang Sampling Racing) leads with 91 points, only 5 more than Curran-Nasr (Whelen Engineering Racing), third are Braun-Bennett (CORE Autosport) with 12 points less.
In Manufacturer championship, Cadillac is in the top of the standings ahead of Nissan with a gap of 7 points.
Next race of IMS WeatherTech Championship will be at Mid-Ohio in Lexington, Ohio on May 6.
