MotoGP has announced the establishment of fines for those riders who do not meet a minimum attendance at promotional events. This decision arises from the importance that the presence of riders has for the image of the championship, according to the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group.

Recently, some riders have shown a lack of commitment to the promotional aspect of the competition, which has led to the implementation of these new penalties. From now on, those riders who do not attend the ‘MotoGP Hero Walk’ during the Indonesian Grand Prix this Sunday could face a fine of €5,000.

The ‘MotoGP Hero Walk’ is an event that allows fans to meet their favorite riders directly in a reserved area of the circuit, where they can take photos and get autographs. This activity was implemented in 2023, and organizers have noticed that, in recent times, the duration of attendance from riders has notably decreased.

This event takes place every Sunday just before the Moto3 race and consists of a 20-minute period. Riders are required to stay for at least 10 minutes to avoid the penalty. If the infraction is repeated, fines may increase, and additional sporting sanctions may be established for those who continue to violate the rules.

Although the implementation of these new sanctions also stems from the recent controversy with some riders, such as Marc Márquez, who sent a double to participate in a kart race before the Japanese Grand Prix, MotoGP has been monitoring this issue for some time.

On Sunday in Indonesia, it was evident that several riders did not meet the minimum attendance of 10 minutes, although those who were present managed to take photos and sign items for their fans, in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.
