Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo took MotoGP pole in Spanish GP from Petronas SRT’s Franco Morbidelli and Ducati’s Jack Miller.
Q1:
The first part of MotoGP qualifying in Spanish GP had Honda’s Marc Marquez lead the way initially but was pushed down by KTM’s Brad Binder, who went quickest, with Petronas SRT’s Franco Morbidelli slotting in second – in prime position to make it into Q2.
The second running saw Morbidelli go even quicker with a 1m36.916s lap, while Binder stood second with a 1m37.350s, to make it into Q2. The latter helped his teammate Miguel Oliveira to move up to third and start from 13th, displacing the Honda riders.
But it was in vain as Oliveira’s best lap was cancelled due to track limits, which dropped in to 16th, while Honda’s Pol Espargaro climbed up to 13th from teammate Marquez. The latter had multiple moments in the session after a heavy crash in FP3.
Avintia Ducati’s Enea Bastianini did well to be 15th from Oliveira, with Petronas SRT’s Valentino Rossi only managing 17th, leading VR46 rider Luca Marini abode his Avintia Ducati machine. Tech 3 KTM’s Danilo Petrucci slotted in 19th then.
His teammate Iker Lecuona was 20th after his early lap was deleted, with LCR Honda’s Alex Marquez slotting in 19th. The 23 MotoGP runners were rounded by Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori and Pramac Ducati’s Tito Rabat in 22nd and 23rd.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP qualifying in Spanish GP had a close fight among multiple riders in the first part of the session. Yamaha’s Fabio Qauartararo led the way with a 1m36.807s lap but Petronas SRT’s Morbidelli was not too far off – only 0.005s behind in second.
LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami had a good run to be third from Ducati’s Jack Miller and Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales in the Top 5. The second run saw Quartararo improve further with a 1m36.755s lap to take MotoGP pole in Spanish GP at Jerez.
Morbidelli remained second despite no improvements, as Ducati pair of Miller and Francesco Bagnaia slotted in third and fourth. The Australian was helped by his teammate to make into the Top 3 as they pushed Nakagami to fifth in a good show for the Japanese.
Pramac’s Johann Zarco was sixth with Vinales only seventh from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro and Suzuki pair of Alex Rins and Joan Mir, while KTM’s Binder and Honda wildcard entrant Stefan Bradl rounded out the Top 12 MotoGP runners.
