Jorge Martin eased in to win the MotoGP sprint in San Marino GP from Marco Bezzecchi, as Francesco Bagnaia resisted KTM pressure for third.
It was a clean start from Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin in MotoGP sprint race in San Marino GP from Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia who cleared VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi at the start. The Italian came under pressure from KTM’s Dani Pedrosa but held third.
Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales dropped to fourth from teammate Aleix Espargaro as they led VR46’s Luca Marini, Honda’s Marc Marquez and KTM’s Brad Binder in the Top 9 points places. It was the South African who lost places at the start.
But he made the recovery ride by passing Marquez and making a bold move on a wide going Espargaro to jump to sixth where he cleared Marini too. He tried to pass Vinales too a couple of times but didn’t get the move done cleanly.
But a wide moment ahead from Bagnaia allowed Bezzecchi to take second and chase Martin as Pedrosa held fourth well. Binder was up to fifth after finally passing Vinales with Marini in seventh after managing to pass Espargaro who lost to Marquez midway.
But he came back on him to retake eighth as Marquez was then chased by Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez for the final point. Several riders were handed track limits warning with Honda’s Joan Mir even getting a Long Gap Penalty for the same.
He didn’t serve and so was handed a Double Long Gap Penalty as Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli and GASGAS Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez also had a Long Gap Penalty. At the front Martin led the way to win the MotoGP sprint in San Marino GP.
Bezzecchi kept second as Bagnaia defended hard in the last few laps to fend off Pedrosa and Binder to retain third. Vinales was sixth from Marini, Espargaro and A Marquez who managed to clear M Marquez and score the final point.
