Jorge Martin controlled in MotoGP sprint win in French GP as Marc Marquez comes through to second, with Maverick Vinales is third.
It was a clean start for Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin in MotoGP sprint in French GP from pole as he led from another good start VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro in the Top 3, with Maverick Vinales slotting in fourth.
The one with a rocket start was Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez as he moved up to fifth from 13th on the grid ahead of KTM’s Jack Miller, who also made a good start. VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio was seventh from Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.
Ducati’s Enea Bastianini rounded out the final point position in ninth ahead of GASGAS Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta, as the other Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia bogged down to 16th in the order and eventually retired after problems with his second bike.
He switched to his second bike after crashing out on his first one. There was a Double Long Gap Penalty for Espargaro after a jump start as Marquez passed Vinales for fourth and was eventually third when Espargaro served his first penalty.
He dropped to sixth after serving his second as Honda’s Joan Mir and Yamaha’s Alex Rins crashed out at separate laps. Martin, meawhile, continued to lead the sprint from Bezzecchi, Marquez, Vinales, Bastianini, Espargaro, di Giannantonio, Acosta and Miller.
But a crash for Bezzecchi allowed Marquez to be second from Vinales, who was being chased by Bastianini for third. Espargaro was fifth from Acosta who cleared di Giannantonio for sixth as Miller and Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez rounded the points places.
It was Martin all the way to win the MotoGP sprint in French GP ahead of Marquez, as Vinales held off Bastianini for third. Espargaro did well to hold on to fifth despite the double penalties from Acosta, who had a late saving moment which held him back.
Di Giannantonio was seventh from Miller and Fernandez, as Quartararo missed out on points in his home event in 10th.
