Jorge Martin set a new lap record to take MotoGP pole in German GP ahead of Trackhouse pair of Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP qualifying in German GP at Sachsensring saw Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez set the pace of 1m20.102s to lead the way from Gresini Ducati’s Marc Marquez after first run, with Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo in third.
GASGAS Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez was fourth with VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi rounding the Top 5. There was a run-in for KTM’s Jack Miller in traffic which sent him on the gravel trap, while Gresini’s Marc Marquez faced traffic too.
He came across a slow Honda wildcard Stefan Bradl, with the incident under investigation. R Fernandez, meanwhile, improved further with a 1m19.678s lap to make it in Q2 along with Bezzecchi, who improved on his last attempt to make it in.
Marquez missed out in third to be 13th ahead of Quartararo and A Fernandez in the Top 15. Miller ended up 16th from the Honda contingent of Takaaki Nakagami (LCR), Luca Marini, Johann Zarco (LCR), Joan Mir and Bradl, as Yamaha sub Remy Gardner was 22nd.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP qualifying in German GP saw Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin lead the way with a 1m19.423s lap after his first run, with Fernandez running second after coming through from Q1, ahead of Gresini’s Alex Marquez.
The reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia was only fifth on his Ducati but crucially he was half a second down. There were tow game were on as Bagnaia waited to set out on the track but in his first run, he was caught out by yellow flag.
Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales had a horrific highside at Turn 1 to crash out. He was limping when attended by the doctors. The final run saw more dramas after late crash for Marquez, which again hampered the lap of Bagnaia, Trackhouse made merry.
It was Martin with MotoGP pole in German GP after setting a 1m19.423s lap, which was only 0.048s quicker than Trackhouse’s Miguel Oliveira as Fernandez made it 2-3 for the team after the Spaniard made it to third in the order after coming through from Q1.
Bagnaia had to be content with fourth with Marquez still fifth despite the fall. Gresini’s Franco Morbidelli was sixth from Vinales, with VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio eighth, Ducati’s Enea Bastianini ninth, Tech 3’s Pedro Acosta 10th, KTM’s Brad Binder 11th and Bezzecchi rounding the Top 12 runners.
